Miscellaneous Plant Adventures

 I can't remember where and when I saw this, but I'm pretty sure I want to do this exact thing with mint! Thought it was hilarious.

Haha not technically related to all this but I drew some plants based off a tattoo I saw. 

Reindeer/antler moss! My cousin Amanda helped me identify this for a woman I nanny for.

Below are photos that I took in Asheville when Jeremy and I visited last weekend. These vases are so so so so cool!! I was in love. I didn't get any of them but I will next time we go. And we will go again soon, it was an amazing trip.

This is a houseplant at one of the houses that I nanny for, I learned a trick where you poke holes in the dirt to let the water get to different parts of the soil. It's called soil aeration. The second image is a week after I did that!

Started working on the garden beds and Jen's (nannying) house for fun. We're going to grow flowers, veggies and herbs with the kids!

These last three images are at Ace Hardware. I am so new at this whole plant thing, it was really exciting to see everything you can get there. One day I'm going to have a giant garden and it will be amazing!

Grandma's Yard - Part 2

Not too much to talk about here, but I'm excited for the progress in Grandma and Grandpa's yard! Right now it's mostly removing weeds and moving stuff around. I'm also working on their patio a bit.

The following photos are mainly so I can have comparison photos later :)

Cute little path off the patio. This is how it looked before I started working on it. 

Did a lot of cutting the dead away form plants, and it's so nice to see what's underneath!

 The path after I cleared off leaves and cut back some of the bushes. Added some stepping stones from another part of the yard later.

 Really proud of this little patch. This is what it looked like before I started, you can barely see the green under the weeds.

 Sat down in the grass because I was wearing myself out!! I was really going hard pulling stuff up for a few hours haha. Loved looking at this tree I was working beside, there are at least six bird feeders in it and the birds were so mad because I was so close.

 So many birds!

2017 Garden Beginnings

First, let me explain a few things - I got about 15 packets of seeds from my grandma, but a lot of them were more than 5-10 years old. So I planted them, not sure if they're going to work or not, but I thought I'd try it out. 

Below are images of some brand new seeds I ordered through UrbanGardenSeeds. I can't wait to plant them!! They came in tubes, which I wasn't expecting. Super cool though. And they included a thank you! I'll list what all I got sometime.

Erin sat on the porch with me while I did this, it was a lot of fun!

This is after my cat Mittens stepped on them, I was very sad. I think they'll be okay, except for one.

I am at it again with the lettuce growing!! I learned from the last time I tried this that if you leave them in water for too long, bad things happen. Schwoops. So this is my second try and they seem to be doing alright!

Grandma gave me this Peace Plant! I'm a fan. I wish I had taken a photo yesterday, because it was kind of droopy - and today it is looking better! I think it's because there is more light and fresh air coming through. 

And this enormous snake plant, that I got from the woman I nanny for on Mondays. I'm really excited about both of these gorgeous plants I got as gifts! Woohoo!

Finally, to end this post, I took some images of the seeds I planted... I'm kind of afraid that they are weeds growing, but I'm really hopeful that it's what I planted. We'll see. I used some dirt from around my house, so there may be extra weeds growing. 

"Grandma Seeds" planted February 11, 2016. The same day, I also planted some painted daisies that I got at Dollar General. The 11th was about 8 weeks from Davidson County's last frost date, March 31st (with an 11 day deviation).

Lastly, sorry this is so unorganized... not that I see myself sharing this with people who would care that this is all over the place since it's mostly for myself, but I forgot to share this, which is just so if the labels keep coming off I'll remember what I have-

Helping Garden at Grandma and Grandpa's

I've been visiting my grandparents two days a week to help around the house and work in their garden. Yesterday I took a lot of the weeds out of the square bed in the carport, and put a little black soil in so it'd look better!! Killed me that I can't show a before and after since I didn't take a photo first, but I have another one below that is going to be a before image.

I also pulled up turnips with Grandpa! It was a lot of fun for me. He was surprised they didn't freeze in the last few weeks because he waited to pull them up. 

I also went through their backyard and found a lot of pots/planters they're not using, so I'm taking them to my house! Huzzah!
