Growing Lettuce ... From Old Lettuce

I TRIED SOMETHING FROM PINTEREST
IT'S KIND OF WORKING I GUESS

Before my first plant growing attempts, I had been looking into growing an herb garden, because I had a decent porch at my college apartment (2014ish). I never actually did that - but I saw on Pinterest that you could re-grow lettuce, celery, and some other veggies from the organic ones you bought at the store by placing them in a cup with water, and placing them in the windowsill.

So I tried that. I think it actually had some kind of funky grossness in the water... which was frustrating because I changed it daily. So the lettuce got thrown away.

Present day, I now have three little romaine lettuce babies!! Bwahahaha.

Unfortunately, one of them isn't doing so well... I'm not sure why. But I think that the bottom part got brown, then a leaf turned brown, now the whole thing is dying a bit... these are such intelligent ways of describing this, I know. I'm not an expert, I'm an extreme plant noob. HEH

I wasn't expecting them to grow the way that they are. I mean, I didn't do a lot of research, but in the beginning it looked like they were growing outward and not upward. But right now they have these tall stems. I'm a little nervous because I don't know what to do from here... but I guess I can do some research on how to take care of them.

I'm a bad plant parent!! Bah. At least I'm working on it haha

This is Lettuce #1. We'll call him Harrison.

Harrison on the right - he gained a friend! We'll call him June. I'm coming up with the names as I type. Such a good mother. Bwahaha

June and Harrison growing outwards and grew some more leaves.

The third lettuce baby! This one was a little smaller than I meant for it to be (I took the outer leaves off for salad)... but let's say she's a girl. Minnie.

Harrison grew upwards... cool.

And I just took this image!! So now this blog is up to speed with the lettuce. Woot woot! As you can see, Harrison and Minnie are doing pretty well (I think) and June is turning brown... I'll look into why that may be happening. I don't know what to do with the freaky stems. I was not expecting freaky stems.

BONUS! Cat penis cactus (HEHEHEHE) and scooped out sugar baby watermelon. I'll talk more about them in another post (or at least the watermelon).

SO YEAH! I'm really excited because I actually just wrote the intro post and this one about my lettuce :) My next ones coming up will be about the succulents from this summer and some seed stuff I'm getting into.
